The Limestone College Athletic Department has announced several updates concerning athletic facility usage, training room, weight room, and compliance office schedules, and modified office hours for coaches and staff during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Effective immediately, all athletic facilities located on the Limestone College campus will be closed to the general public. These facilities include any areas within the Bob Prevatte Athletic Complex – Saints Field, the Jerry Richardson Practice Field, the football practice field, Founders FCU Stadium, the Emmie Evans Rector Tennis Pavilion, and the Cunning Victory Bell Tower – and the main court at the Timken Center.
Additionally, the Timken Aquatics Center will be closed to everyone – the Limestone College community, the general public, and the YMCA – until May 1.
For student-athletes who remain on campus, the Limestone Athletic Training Room will operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. The training room hours are designed to support temporary hours for the Limestone Health Center on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The weight room located in the Walt Griffin Physical Education Building will operate on a regular schedule for informal workouts for the rest of this week. However, starting on Monday, March 23, the weight room will begin a modified schedule, opening Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. No more than 20 individuals will be permitted to occupy the training space at one time.
Limestone College and Sodexo will partner to deep-clean all athletic facilities in the coming weeks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and combat the virus should it appear on campus. Student-athletes who remain on campus are encouraged to continue following recommendations set by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and to seek medical advice if you develop symptoms or if you have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 or have recently been in an area with ongoing spread.
While this is a difficult time for all athletic departments across the country, Limestone coaches will remain active in both recruiting and retention. Coaches will continue to maintain frequent communication with potential student-athletes via email, phone calls, Skype/video calls, virtual campus tours, etc. to replace the on-campus and off-campus visits typically associated with the recruiting process.
Coaches and the Limestone Athletics Compliance Office will also advise potential student-athletes on unforeseen eligibility issues associated with the current COVID-19 pandemic, including SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT testing cancellations and school and university shutdowns throughout the country.
Limestone coaches will remain in communication with current student-athletes to make sure they are receiving the latest information regarding the spring and upcoming fall semesters. They will provide guidance as students transition to distance learning by encouraging communication with professors, academic advisors and the academic success department while also monitoring academic progress.
Alongside the compliance office, coaches will monitor eligibility of current incoming recruits and potential student-athletes while encouraging the incoming class to submit all official forms required for enrollment (admissions, housing, FAFSA, compliance, and medical forms).
To assist the coaches and all current and future student-athletes, the Limestone Athletics Compliance Office will operate on a modified schedule. The compliance office will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. to better serve the needs of each of Limestone’s teams.
As the COVID-19 situation remains fluid, the Limestone Athletics Department will continue to provide updates as they become available. Stay tuned to www.golimestonesaints.com for the latest information.
